A message from our President of the Board, Jeff Ramsden:

"I wanted to send everyone who participated in our 2014 Charity Golf Tournament a special thank you, as we ended up raising more than $35,000 this year!  It is more than double any fundraising in years past and we couldn't have done it without all of your support.  The money raised will be going towards Angel Flight, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and into the SFBAA Scholarship Fund.  As I explained at the tournament, we are now able to add an additional scholarship this year, the Dave Davis Memorial Scholarship for Outstanding Community Service in honor of our late friend who gave back so much to our community.

We recently received an email from Debra Edhlund, the mother of one of our past scholarship winners, Isabelle Edhlund, that I would like to share:

Good afternoon,

I thought you might like an update on my daughter Isabelle Edhlund, recipient of the SFBAA scholarship in 2011.

For the last two summers Isabelle has interned in Colorado and Alabama with United Launch Alliance (ULA).

She will be graduating this winter with her degree in Aerospace Engineering and in the spring she will be interning with NASA at the Johnson Space Center in Texas. Over the summer she will intern with ULA again but this time at Kennedy Space Center.

She has been accepted into the graduate program at UF and will continue her education in the fall of 2015.

Thank you for the support that was given to her in 2011, it helped her get where she is today!

As you can see, the scholarship has played a vital role in the lives of graduating high school seniors and we hope to continue to do so for many years to come.

NAS IMPACT STATEMENT

FACILITY:  FLL ATCT (Fort Lauderdale International)

 

1.        DESCRIPTION OF NAVAID/AIRPORT/CONSTRUCTION PROJECT:

Closure of Taxiway C –replacement & repairs of pavement on Taxiway C

Closure of Runway 13/31 – repair of connectors on Taxiway C

2.        SCHEDULED DATES/TIMES (Zulu and Local Times Requested):

Aug. 22^nd, 2012 (Daily/continuous) for 231 days.

*Note- Construction will be completed in phases throughout the time period; several phases of the repairs will close Runway 13/31 during the overnight hours only.

3.        OPERATIONAL IMPACT: 

Sections of Taxiway C west of Taxiway D will be closed periodically for repairs.

Customers can expect changes in taxi/traffic patterns.

Runway 13/31 is scheduled to close for 14 nights while the taxiway connectors are repaired between Taxiway D and Taxiway E.

Runway 13/31 closed nightly:

Aug 22^nd – Sept. 4^th, 2012  0200Z-1000Z  (2200pm-0600am local)

During the Runway 13/31 closure, Runway 9L/27R will be utilized

4.        DELAYS:

Customers may experience taxi delays due to taxiway are closures.

5.     TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT INITIATIVES (TMI's): 

TMI’s are not anticipated.

6.     USER COORDINATION: 

Coordination with the customers will be accomplished via the ATCSCC or direct communications as the situation warrants.

7.     GENERAL INFORMATION:

A NOTAM will be issued prior to the closure of the runway/taxiway.

Tomorrow the latest publication cycle begins & contains the NOTAMS for the FLL Runway 9R & taxiway closures on April 17.  BCAD has published the NOTAMS (below) that will show RWY 9R & taxiways "OPEN" until April 16.

ATC is now issuing taxi instructions that require all aircraft & vehicles to "HOLD SHORT OF RWY 13".  This will begin to condition pilots & controllers in advance that RWY 13 will become active & we must be alert. John J. Pokryfke, Airside Operations Manager
