The Courses
THE FAZIO COURSE
The Fazio is a reinvention of The Haig, PGA National’s original 18-hole course that opened in 1980. The Haig was designed by George and Tom Fazio in tribute to five-time PGA champion Walter Hagen, and its renovation was led by third-generation designer Tom Fazio II, who emphasized modernizing the course layout.
While the original par-72 routing remains intact, the renovation improved the classic golf architecture with modern advances, including:
Fazio II himself believes his renovation achieved “that ideal balance where single-digit golfers will be fully challenged while higher handicaps will have a layout ideal for a day of enjoyable resort golf.”
THE CHAMPION COURSE
Originally designed by Tom and George Fazio for major tournament play, The Champion was redesigned by Jack Nicklaus in 2014 and hosts the PGA TOUR’s Honda Classic each spring. It features The Bear Trap, which spans three demanding holes designed by Nicklaus, and is called “one of the toughest stretches in golf.” Listen to the designer describe it in his own words.
According to a story by The New York Times, “The Champion’s layout at PGA National is 7,045 yards of venom, a king cobra of a course that rises without warning to strike down the world’s best golfers. Snake charmers may have a better chance of taming it than the players at The Honda Classic.”
Fortunately, our Champion golf course has five sets of tees to make the course more playable for golfers of all levels. However, even though the course has generous landing areas and spacious and accepting TifEagle greens, golfers are presented with course management challenges throughout the round. It’s unquestionably one of the best golf courses in Florida and the entire country!
The Resort
The PGA National Resort & Spa has completed a $100 million transformation, reimagining luxury, from interior and exterior designs to all-new restaurants, activities, and amenities. It has been home to the PGA’s Honda Classic since 2007 and has ninety-nine holes of championship golf on six courses. The state-of-the-art Sports & Racquet Club features 19 tennis courts and it has a 40,000-square-foot spa with exclusive Waters of the World outdoor mineral pools. It has a decorated history and tradition as one of the finest golf resorts in South Florida, located just 20 minutes from the Palm Beach Airport.
We have been granted a courtesy rate of $319+ tax & resort fee per night for those interested in staying on the premises overnight. A block of rooms have been reserved for us. These rates are eligible for any of our participants/sponsors on Wednesday (11/12) and Thursday (11/13).
